Summer Homework
Week 1 (May 31- June 6)
Well the first week of summer I didn't do much, I went to Roatan for the whole week. I practiced my English a lot because even though there were some people who spoke spanish, most of the people spoke English in the isalnd. At all the restaurants most of the waiters spoke to you in English. Some restaurant waiters were people that came from America to Roatan and liked it so much that they stayed, so with those type of people were the ones that I spent most of my time because they're young and fun people. The place where the dolphins are kept in Roatan belongs to an American friend of my dad's and we spoke English with him all of the time.

Week 2 (June 7- June 13)
Fot the second week we flew back to Tegucigalpa for just one day and then took off to Europe. We first flew to Madrid. During that week I practiced my English at all the airports, I also stopped in Miami for one night. On the way to Madrid I saw an English spoken film called Valentine's Day on the plane. It is about a guy who delivers flowers on Valentine's day to a whole bunch of couples. Some fall in love and others break up on Valentine's Day. Since I was in Spain for the whole week I didn't practice spaking too much English during this week. Below is a picture of the airport in Europe.IMG_1729.JPGexternal image valentines-day-movie.jpg

Week 3 (June 14- June 20)
This third week I went fromto Paris for a week. Speaking English was my only way of communicating with everyone because my french is terrible. Every day I spoke english with every one at the museums, at the hotel, in the sub, in taxis, at stores, and pretty much everywhere. All the tours were given in English. I watched TV everyday and most of the channels in my hotel were in English because most of the people that stayed at the hotel were English speaking, or not French.

Week 4 (June 21- June 27)
Before heading to camp I stayed in Miami for a whole week. We went shopping for all the supplies that we would need at camp. In Miami many people speak Spanish but on the island where we live most people speak English. All of the people who work in our building speak English as well. I watched television in English, I watched all the saved CS Miami episodes that were on out TIVO. I also rented English speaking movies at Blockbuster like The Green Zone.

Week 5 to 9 (June 27 - July 30)

On June 27 I left for camp. Camp was actually Boarding school in Connecticut. It is a school named Choate Rosemary Hall. It is a very prestigious prep school and the school work is very hard. There I stayed for 5 whole weeks and spoke nothing but English.

It took forever to get there because our plane could not land in Chicago and we flew in circles for too long until we ran out of gas and had to land in Detroit. When we finally landed in Chicago our Hartford flight had been cancelled so I had to speak in English to an American Airlines guy who was supposed to get us on another plane. We had to wait for 6 hours in Chicago before finally getting on a plane to Connecticut. We got to school at midnight.

Next day classes began. My mother made us take a mathematics workshop and an English writing workshop. We took 3 hours of math in the morning and then three hours of writing in the afternoon. The writing was mostly creative creating, we didn't have to read very much or at least I didn't.

I made many friends at Choate. They came from all over the world, most of them were Asians. The only way to communicate with them was to speak in English. In Connecticut no one spoke Spanish so I practiced plenty of English. The only time I spoke Spanish was on the phone with my family.

On weekends we took day trips to Boston, Cambridge, New York. We also went to the malls and to the movies. Only English was spoken. I watched Eclipse at the movies, the girls all wanted to see the vampire movie. I think it was just like all the other movies about vampires. We also had activities on campus like a water slide day because it was incredibly hot the whole time we were there.Over 95 degrees every day.

If you click on this link: http://www.choate.edu/summerprograms/hs_writing.aspx you will find a description of the English course I took. This other link is the math class that I took : http://www.choate.edu/summerprograms/hs_math.aspx

Week 10
I returned to our home in Miami. I was very glad to leave camp. I was actually counting the hours to go home and eat real food. The food at camp tasted like cardboard sometimes. In Miami I rested and rested because Choate had wiped me out. I woke up late and went to bed even later. I watched a lot of television and rented more movies. I watched Alice in Wonderland which is about a girl who goes down a rabbit hole and lands in a new world full of weird things. I also took my little sister to the movies to watch Toy Story 3. She really liked it. Andy is going off to college and all of his toys are given away. In Miami I also shopped for back to school supplies and all of my clothes.

Week 11
I am finally back home, not much left of vacations so I plan to rest. My father planned a cruise but it got cancelled and he wanted to take us to Tela and Pico Bonito instead. I decided not to go and chose to just hang out here in Tegucigalpa. I have had the chance to see all of my friends and finally spend time with them. We met at Maria Fernanda's house and watched the movie My sister's Keeper. It was incredibly sad and ofcourse all of the girls cried. It is a story of a teenage girl who is dying from cancer and her sister was born to help her survive. At one point she decides she does not want to live like this anymore and get her sister to help her die. At home I watched another movie with my family called The A team, it was a great action movie. Both films were in English.

Week 12
This week my mother had guests come in from Boston. They were represenattives of an Investment firm she works with. They were all Americans and spoke no Spanish. They came in on Sunday so we invited them to go to our house in the mountains and have lunch with us. I had to speak English to them the whole afternoon. I was responsible for giving them a small tour of Valle de Angeles which they really liked. On Monday my grandfather who lives in Nicaragua flew in to have dinner with these same people. I had to speak english through dinner this time. Finally on Tuesday I was free to do whatever I wanted so I planned a day trip to Valle de Angeles with my friends, this time we only spoke Spanish.
